Aims:

As Reading Ambassadors we aim to:

  • update and maintain displays which recommend books to the whole school
  • choose new books for our reading corners based on peer recommendations and book talk in class
  • present book recommendations in class
  • help to plan events such as World Book Day and our annual book fair
  • share ideas about how we can promote a love of reading here at OJS!

What we have been up to:

In Autumn Term we were delighted to receive a collection of 100 fabulous books curated by Imagined Things bookshop for our school library. The books were funded and donated by local company Professional safety Services. We spent a very enjoyable meeting having a the first read of them and thinking of pupils in our classes who we could recommend them to.

This years World Book Day was a big success and had the theme ‘Read Your Way’. We helped Mrs Wilkinson and Miss Starrett to plan activities for the day such as book swaps, reading visits to other classes and creating collages to show ‘My 24 hours of Reading’.

Also this term, we helped to organise timetables for visiting the Book Fair and previewed and recommended books to our peers. Afterwards we listened to our classes and created wish lists of new books for our reading corners. We were so excited to hear that we’d earned over £500 of rewards to spend on new books!
