Equality, Diversity & Inclusion
RED Award
Following a thorough assessment from Red Kite Alliance, we achieved the RED Award in July 2024, in recognition of our work to embed a culture of mutual respect, to champion equality and to celebrate diversity. ‘We are tolerant and respect one another’ is an important OJS value and we are committed to ‘promoting Equality and Diversity’, as this is one of our golden curriculum threads.
The Red Kite Alliance RED (Respect, Equality and Diversity) Award has been developed to support schools to review, strengthen and celebrate their provision in terms of equality, diversity, respect for individuals and community cohesion. Our engagement with the award signals a clear commitment to place this agenda at the heart of life and work of Oatlands.
As educators, we know that we are uniquely placed to help to shape the attributes and values of the pupils we work with every day – and to make a positive contribution to wider society through our work with parents/carers and the local community. We also know that we have a unique responsibility to maximise the opportunities which this privileged role presents.
Within the feedback report, we were praised that this “…infiltrates many important facets of your school life beyond the day to day, as evidenced via assemblies and displays which all promote Fundamental British Values and the Protected Characteristics and celebrate the diversity of your pupils and staff. An inclusive ethos is impressively peppered throughout school policies, such as anti-bullying and the curriculum vision. You entice the curious minds of each year group to ‘go further’ and ‘be diverse’, by exploring ‘diverse opportunities’ to enhance their cultural capital. Many congratulations on all that you continue to do to promote and celebrate diversity as a school – keep up the great work!”
