Parents/Carers

Welcome to a movement that inspires connection, creativity, and care for our children. As Parents and carers at Oatlands Junior School, we believe in the power of childhood to shape bright and balanced futures. Our Smartphone-Free Childhood initiative is built on a simple but revolutionary idea: let kids be kids!
In a world increasingly dominated by screens, children are often missing out on the magic of play, the beauty of face-to-face relationships, and the growth that comes from real-world exploration. Our group advocate for a childhood free from the distractions and pressures of smartphones, giving our young ones the space to:
Foster Imagination: Unplug and let creativity flourish.
Cultivate Friendships: Build deeper connections through in-person interaction.
Explore the World: Discover the joy of outdoor adventures and hands-on learning.
Find Balance: Protect mental health by reducing screen time.
A growing group of parents and carers are joining together to offer each other the following:
Parenting Guides: Practical tips for managing technology at home.
Community Events: Fun activities and programs that bring families together.
Educational Support: Tools and training for schools to encourage screen-free policies.
Let’s work together to preserve the essence of childhood in a digital age. Whether you’re a parent, educator, or community leader, you can make a difference.
Together, we can create a generation that values connection, creativity, and the simple joys of being a child.

Anna Sarjanston of ScreenSafe has worked closely with school and Oatlands Smartphone Free Childhood to offer support and resources to help parents navigate the ever changing world of social media and online safety.
