Mrs Scarth's End of Summer 1 Letter
Posted 22nd May 2026

Dear Parent/Carer
We have reached the end of another busy half-term and once again, so much has been achieved both inside and outside of school. I am especially proud of our Year 6 pupils who completed their End of Key Stage 2 Primary Tests – they have worked hard and approached all tests with maturity. They are a real credit to their teachers and parents/carers who have worked in partnership throughout this year to prepare them so well. Also, our Year 4 pupils attended a three-day residential trip to Kingswood Dearne and enjoyed all the outdoor adventurous activities on offer. Great teamwork and resilience ensured that a memorable time was had by all, including the teachers.
We always celebrate learning both in and outside the classroom through our daily posts on Instagram, which we hope you are regularly alerted to and follow. Next term, we have lots of exciting things planned. Follow the link to the Summer Term calendar of events for your information.
PTA Summer Fair

This year, our joint summer fair with Oatlands Infants School is on Saturday 20th June 1-4pm at Oatlands Junior School. Please do share this date with family and friends as it is always an enjoyable afternoon with lots of entertainment, stalls, games, refreshments and live music. If you are able to offer your time to help on the day, please get in touch with the PTA – they have lots of jobs to fill! Thank you for your support.
Term Dates 2026-2027 – update.
Please see attached the updated professional development days. School will be OPEN on Friday 2nd July 2027 and CLOSED on Friday 2nd October 2026 instead. This is a Red Kite Learning Trust training day.
Staffing News
Today, we said farewell to Mrs Willis and Miss Beaty. Mrs Willis has worked at OJS for over 11 years and throughout that time, has supported many children in her role as Teaching Assistant. She will be stepping away from the classroom to pursue a new career path. We wish her all the best and both staff and pupils will miss her very much. Miss Beaty starts her maternity leave, and we wish her all the best in her preparations for the arrival of her new baby. Miss Mansfield will be returning to school after half-term as Mrs White. She is getting married during the half term holiday and we wish her a wonderful and sunny wedding day!
A reminder that school is closed on Monday 1st June for a teacher training day. I look forward to welcoming the children back to school on Tuesday 2nd June at 8:55am.
Wishing you all a lovely half-term holiday!
Yours sincerely,
Mrs Scarth
Headteacher
