Dear Parent/Carer
As we embark on a busy and exciting summer term at Oatlands Junior School, we wanted to share some key events and activities that will be taking place over the coming weeks.
Firstly, we are thrilled that our Year 4 children will be heading to the Robinwood Activity Centre for their residential trip. This promises to be an unforgettable experience filled with adventure and team-building activities in the beautiful surroundings of Todmorden.
In addition, we will be commemorating VE Day with a series of celebrations and educational activities to help our students understand the significance of this historic event. It's a wonderful opportunity for the children to learn about and reflect on the past.
Our Year 6 students will be preparing for their SATs, and we are confident that their hard work and dedication will pay off. Similarly, our Year 4 students will be taking their multiplication checks, and we encourage them to continue practicing their times tables at home.
We are also excited to announce that we will be hosting a French Week, where students will immerse themselves in French culture, language, and cuisine. This will be a fantastic opportunity for them to broaden their horizons and develop their language skills.
We look forward to a productive and enjoyable term ahead. Thank you for your continued support.
VE Day Celebrations
We are thrilled to announce that our school will be celebrating the 80th anniversary of VE Day with some exciting events. To mark this important occasion, we will be hosting a street party where students can join in the fun and enjoy spending time with their friends. Everyone will also have the chance to sing popular wartime songs, adding to the festive atmosphere.
In the days leading up to the celebrations, lessons will focus on learning about VE Day and its significance, helping our pupils understand the importance of this special day in our history. Please refer to the letter that has been sent out separately for more information.

Bike Bus
Today we shard another successful Bike Bus with our friends at Oatlands Infant School. Children from Reception to Year 6 joined parents, carers, staff and volunteers cycling from the Stray to the Infant School site and on to the Junior School.
If you missed the Bike Bus today, don't worry! There are two more opportunities this half term on Friday 9th May and Friday 23rd May. More information will be sent out nearer the dates.
I would like to take this opportunity to extend a huge thank you to our volunteer marshals and Ben and Hazel for organising this inspiring event.
Volunteer Bike Bus Marshals
Anyone who joins us on the Bike Bus and is interested in becoming a trained marshal, there are a couple of spaces left so first come first served - taking place on Monday 28th and Wednesday 30th at 7pm -8:15pm. Email: walkbikescoot@gmail.com

PE and Sport Competitions and Clubs
As we move into the summer term, we're hoping for some lovely weather as we switch over to summer sports across PE, clubs, and competitions!
In PE, children are focusing on athletics during Summer 1, developing their running, jumping, and throwing skills in preparation for their upcoming Sports Afternoons. In Summer 2, they'll transition to striking and fielding games such as rounders and cricket. Additionally, Years 3 to 5 are enjoying a 5-week tennis block delivered by Harrogate Racquets as morning PE lessons.
Our extracurricular sports offer involves rounders and cricket clubs for Years 5/6 on Mondays and Years 3/4 on Tuesdays, a boys’ football club on Wednesdays, and a girls’ football club on Thursdays.
We’ve also got a busy calendar of exciting events ahead: the Year 4 residential from Wednesday 30th April to Friday 2nd May; cricket sessions with the Yorkshire Cricket Board for Years 3 and 6 on Friday 9th May; and the Youth Board Primary Sports Event (formerly Red Kite Olympics) for Years 5 and 6 at Rossett High on Friday 6th June. Year 6 will also enjoy Judo and Aikido taster sessions on Mondays 9th and 16th June. During our Cultural Experience in Sport Week, beginning 23rd June, pupils will explore a range of global sports: Year 6 will try Kabadi, Year 4 will play handball, Year 3 will learn the Haka, and Year 5 will take on American football. To round off the term, our Sports Afternoons are set for Monday 30th June for Years 3 and 4, and Tuesday 1st July for Years 5 and 6—we can’t wait to see the children shine!

We always welcome parent/carer volunteers to help with any school trip or into school to read with children. If any of the topics for next half term are of a particular interest to you, then please contact your child’s class teacher. Last year, we welcomed a number of parents into school to share their professions or interests in STEM, during British Science week. If would be lovely for the children to experience this again. Please contact Miss Allenby, if you are interested visiting school during this week Monday 2nd - Friday 6th June. Thank you!
